One Week Down

I've officially have been at college for a week now. But the thing is, it feels like I have been here for way longer than just a week. Not in the sense that the time is passing so slowly, but more along the lines of I feel so well adjusted, and we just jumped right into classes. I guess you could say that would be a good thing.

While living in Ohio for the next few months I will have to opportunity to eat food that's really only available in the Columbus/Ohio area. I'm rather excited about this because I was getting quite sick of eating pretty much only chain food back in Crystal Lake. Last night I ate Cane's for the first time. It was the most delicious chicken finger I've ever eaten. And the toast? I didn't even know toast could be that good. This place seriously only sells chicken fingers and has only four options on the menu, and they're a booming business. Who knew! I've also gotten a chance to eat at PJ's. Let me tell you that this place has some high quality subs. I decided to order the Fat Juggernaut. And do you know what is on the Fat Juggernaut? No? Let me tell you. Chicken fingers, hush puppies, banana peppers, curly fries, bbq & ranch sauce. I feel disgusting thinking about it. But I'm also pretty excited that I can get sushi for only a swipe with my meal plan! Plus the sushi is legit good.

So of course I would write a GIANT paragraph about food. Little has changed. And yes that paragraph makes me sounds like a fat ass but I am eating healthy! I swear! But that's besides the point. This past weekend officially wrapped up Welcome Week, and Weezer capped off the week with a free concert on the South Oval. Holy crap. That was one of the best shows I have ever seen! Weezer is such an AMAZING band live, and the only song that was iffy was their newest one, Memories. They opened with Hash Pipe and finished off the encore with Buddy Holly. Towards the end of the show Weezer did an awesome cover of Kids which turned into mash-up of Poker Face (Weezer made Lady Gaga sound good!). One of the best songs of the concert! Plus Rivers Cuomo (who possibly had the best quote of the night: "O-HI-O MUTHAFUCKAS!" and yes it's okay to say this stuff now cause we're all in college, right?) crowd surfed from a point in the crowd to the stage and he went right over my little group. So what I'm trying to say is that I touched Rivers. I might have potentially accosted him due to the face that he crowd surfed face down, which lead to someone taking his glasses.

(taken from my phone)
So yeah, we were pretty close and being that close leads to crowd surfers being dropped on you. Luckily it wasn't as bad as Flogging Molly, but I did have a few people dropped on me and I got kicked a few times. All is well.

And being in college means free stuff!

(two more pairs of free sunglasses!)

And giant books!

(but luckily this will last me a few chem classes)

And twinkies!

(brad and mackenzi showing some twinkie love)

Classes are going swimmingly (and thank you Mrs. Brockland for preparing me so well for college labs. Without all the labs in AP Chem I would be screwed for my labs!). My math professor is from either the UK or Australia (we are literally having this debate in recitation because no one knows) and his last name is Leary. Do you think he would mind if I called him O'Leary? But all my professors speak English as their first language so I can pretty much understand what they are saying. Oh, and I like my engineering class which is probably a good thing since I'm an engineering major.

And Saturday was the first football game with the students back (and my second one in my life... 5th grade was my first OSU game) and I was one of the few lucky freshman get Block O tickets (BO North to be exact). I wont go into too much detail about the game but I will say I am still in shock that Tressel let us run up the score. That has NEVER happen in the Tressel era. Oh, and Block O North's favorite player. Oh and I legit got sunburned on Saturday. I have sunglass burn lines on the right side of my face. Awesome.

That's all for now!

College

So, I have been a college student for approximately 48 hours now. Finally, after three weeks since my last friend abandoned me in Crystal Lake, I have found my way to the Ohio State campus, and I must say, I kinda like college. I don't think I can say I love it yet, because I mean, can you love something for only experiencing 2 days of it? I don't think so. Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of college and freedom and doing whatever the hell you want, but college as a whole? Ask me in a week.

As most of you know, Ohio State is messed up since they start so late, it shouldn't come as a surprise that classes would start RIGHT AWAY!. Yeah, my first class is tomorrow. Awesome. Engineering 181 here I come! I'm kinda bummed that we start classes tomorrow because these past two days have been jammed packed with stuff. I feel like I have to do so much stuff today before classes start. I just feel rushed. Whatever, in ten weeks I will be starting winter break. And I really shouldn't be complaining; I have had friends in classes for weeks now.

So I don't know how many of you know this but I am in the Environmental & Natural Resources scholars program here at OSU, and basically we love doing things nature-y. YAY NATURE! This morning I had to do mandatory volunteering. Ironic, no? So i had to get up at 7 am and I didn't get back until 2. I wasn't a happy camper. But hey, I got to weed and pull vines from fences in the Olentangy Wetlands. WOO!

I'm not going to lie, I have lost my train of thought. I left halfway through writing this to go pick up my books (waited in an hour line and they weren't "ready" yet) and now I am back annnddd I don't even know what my next paragraph was going to be about. Sorry about that!

I was going to post a picture of my dorm for everyone to see but for some reason my mac isn't recognizing my camera when I turn it on. So you might not get pictures until winter break. Sorry!

Well, I'm going now! Bye!

(I really need a better closing... I'll work on that.)

Two Weeks Left

Two weeks from now I will be off to college, moved into my dorm, meeting my roommates, starting a new part of my life. But I'm sitting in my room imagining all these different scenarios of how September 19th will play out. Will I like all my roommates? Will I have a cool floor? Will everything even fit in my dorm? The more and more I start thinking about school the more and more I want to go. I envy all my friends already at school, hearing their stories about "how awesome college is!" and like things. I'm sick of hearing all these stories; I just want to experience the damn thing! But for now, I just need to pack. More importantly, I need to figure out how many shoes I am going to pack.

If you're reading this blog, you probably know where I am going to school because I probably forced you to read this. But if for some strange reason you stumbled upon this lovely blog and have no idea who I am, I will tell you right now that I am going to Ohio State and hoping to major in environmental engineering. This fine university is home of many wonderful traditions. And I will be spending my Saturdays here:

Pretty great place, no? Especially during a championship season run... Okay, enough about Buckeye football.

So yes, I am going to be spending my next four years at OSU but while I'm there, my friends and family are going to be spread out all over the country and that's pretty much why I'm writing this thing - for people to stay in touch. I have friends going to school in D.C., Florida, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa, Colorado, Ohio, Illinois, Germany. You name it, I probably know someone there. And on top of that, my family is still where I left them! So essentially I'm going to update this bad boy from week to week so you guys can know what I'm up to. Simple as that.

So bye?
